The Terry Brooks Interlude

Apologies for the delay in posting new reviews but normal service will be resumed as soon as possible. You see it’s all the fault of those pesky Orbit publishers who very kindly sent me a sparkly new copy of “The Gypsy Morph” by Terry Brooks, the only problem is I haven’t read the previous novel in the series “The Elves Of Cintra”. well what the hell thinks I, I may as well re-read and review “Armageddon’s Children” as well.

So there you have it friends, starting very soon, a triple bill of Mr Brooks. In the meantime I hope to post a couple of reviews of other genre stuff which you might like but which is slightly more off the beaten track. Hope you enjoy them.

Ray Bradbury and Reviews

Having reviewed a couple of Bradbury’s books recently (one good, one excellent) it is interesting to hear his thoughts in this video . It’s particularly interesting to hear his thoughts on reviews which tie nicely into the debate going on at “A Dribble Of Ink”

Bradbury states that:-

“… as a writer, I’ve always ignored the reviews, because they’re always wrong. And even the right ones are wrong. They love you for the wrong reasons. So you mustn’t read them. So I turned down 200 reviews in the last 40 years, because I knew they couldn’t help me. It’s too late. I’m already me! The book’s out-you can’t change that book by criticizing it. It’s too late! You’re too late for me. If you could help by looking over my shoulder when I’m throwing up, you could teach me to throw up better. But those reviews can’t help me throw up, you see?”

Interesting but it kind of implies we are reviewing for the writers benefit, I always thought my reviews would be of more use (if any use at all, that is) to the reader looking to spend some hard earned cash.
